This is a very costly process due to the hardness of the metal, and the difficulty of manufacturing a good reliable M14 receiver. You have to remember that M14s as they were originally manufactured used hammer forged receivers which were then machined to spec. Maybe that will be my next project after I finally finish my AR-10. I'd love to get my hands on one and put a JAE stock. I know its insane how expensive the M1A/M14 rifles are. Keep in mind that if you are looking for a match or precision rifle, the M1A/M14 will do it, but it won't be cheap. They are out there to be had, if thats what you want. A lot of it is snobbery from people who spent 3 grand on a Fulton Armory or Springfield match M1A. There is a lot of love/hate stuff on the interwebs about the Chinese m14s. I could hit plates at Angeles ranges out to at least 300 yards with it. They fit fine is 25 dollar surplus fiberglass stock though.Īccuracy was acceptable, about 2-3moa using irons. It can be refinished, but it is soft wood. The finish on the chinese guns is not terrible. OTOH, you will then have a rifle that is quite close to GI spec. Keep in mind that after buying a GI bolt and having it installed you will have spent more than a grand. Check headspace often, and if it starts to open up past spec then send it out to have a GI bolt put in. The only trouble spot is the bolt can be soft. The receiver is forged as per original specs, unlike SA which are castings. Some consider it to be among the best of the m14 copies. Needed money for my truck, and I just didn't have the time to turn the m14 into what I wanted. I bought one there for around 800, then sold it this year for the same.
